Netanyahu slams Macron, Albanese on Palestine issue

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sparked a diplomatic storm after accusing French President Emmanuel Macron of “fuelling anti-Semitism” by pledging to recognise Palestine at the UN.

In a letter, Netanyahu claimed Macron’s stance encouraged Hamas and put French Jews at greater risk. The French government dismissed the comments as false and offensive, insisting France will always protect its Jewish citizens.

The row widened when Netanyahu also attacked Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, calling him “weak” after Australia announced it would recognise Palestine and cancelled the visa of a far-right Israeli politician. In response, Israel blocked visas for Australian officials linked to the Palestinian Authority.

Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong condemned the move as “unjustified,” saying Netanyahu’s government was isolating Israel even further.

At the same time, Gaza’s humanitarian crisis continues to worsen. The UN reports that more than 700,000 displaced Palestinians are without shelter, as Israel has blocked tents and aid supplies for months. Officials warn ongoing military operations risk creating an even greater disaster.

With France and Australia standing firm, Israel faces growing diplomatic isolation as more countries consider recognising Palestinian statehood ahead of next month’s UN General Assembly.
