Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced a new gas discovery at the Sahito-1 exploratory well in Khairpur district, Sindh.

The discovery was made in the Khewari Exploration License area, where OGDC holds a 95 percent stake, while Government Holdings Private Limited has a 5 percent carried interest.

According to the company, testing in the Lower Goru Formation showed gas production of around 17.2 million standard cubic feet per day, indicating strong output potential from the well.

The Sahito-1 well was spudded in December 2025 and drilled to a depth of 3,870 meters using OGDC’s own technical resources as part of its ongoing exploration activities.

The discovery is expected to help reduce Pakistan’s energy supply gap by adding local gas resources. It may also strengthen OGDC’s reserves along with those of its joint venture partner.

OGDC described the find as an important development for both the company and the country’s efforts to improve energy security and reduce dependence on imported fuel.
