Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC), along with its joint venture partners, has successfully appraised an existing gas discovery at the Bilitang-1 ST-1 exploratory well in the TAL Block, located in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The joint venture includes MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Company as the operator, along with Pakistan Petroleum Limited, Pakistan Oilfields Limited, and Government Holdings Private Limited. The partners confirmed the presence of gas along with trace amounts of condensate from the Lumshiwal Formation at the well site.
The Bilitang-1 ST-1 well was spudded in August 2025 and later sidetracked to target higher-quality reservoirs. It was drilled to a total depth of 4,004 meters, marking a key milestone in evaluating the hydrocarbon potential of the TAL Block.
Testing results showed gas flow at approximately 26.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) at a 32/64-inch choke, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 4,214 psi. Small quantities of condensate were also observed during testing.
OGDC stated that the successful appraisal reduces exploration risk in the TAL Block and opens up further development opportunities for the joint venture partners.
The discovery is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s energy security by increasing domestic gas production and contributing to the expansion of the country’s hydrocarbon reserves.
