The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating security situation in South Asia, emphasizing the importance of upholding international agreements, including the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Indus Waters Treaty. The remarks came during a high-level briefing held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where a Pakistani parliamentary delegation updated OIC ambassadors on the latest developments in the Indo-Pak conflict.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, addressing the permanent representatives of OIC member states, strongly condemned India’s attempt to blame Pakistan for the Pahalgam incident without conducting a proper investigation or presenting any credible evidence. He denounced the baseless accusations, calling them a pretext for unlawful military actions by India targeting civilians and critical infrastructure.
Highlighting India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, Bilawal warned against the weaponisation of water resources. He asserted that India’s aggressive posture poses a direct threat to regional peace and stability. He urged the international community to recognize that such actions could not be normalized, calling for the immediate restoration of the treaty.
Bilawal expressed gratitude to OIC member countries for their efforts in promoting ceasefire, mediation, and de-escalation. He reiterated Pakistan’s continued commitment to peace, diplomacy, and dialogue, urging for the resumption of comprehensive bilateral talks with India and a firm commitment to ceasefire agreements.
The former foreign minister also praised the OIC’s unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed the necessity of a just and lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
In response, OIC member states acknowledged Pakistan’s transparent and diplomatic approach to resolving regional tensions. They expressed full support for Pakistan’s position and reaffirmed solidarity with the Kashmiri people, calling for all unresolved issues to be addressed through peaceful means and in line with UN mandates.
