Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a new oil and gas discovery at its exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant) in the Nashpa Block, located in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company said the discovery was made in the Lumshiwal formation after conducting a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-04) in the Hangu and Lumshiwal formations.

According to OGDCL, the well is producing 225 barrels of oil per day and 1.01 million standard cubic feet per day of gas. The output was recorded through a 32/64-inch choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 190 psig.

OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65% working interest. Its joint venture partners include Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), which holds a 30% share, and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), which has a 5% carried interest.

The Baragzai X-01 well was spudded on December 30, 2024, to assess the hydrocarbon potential of several formations, including Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta, and Kingriali. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters, reaching the Kingriali formation.

OGDCL also confirmed that three earlier drill stem tests conducted in the Kingriali, Datta, and Samana Suk plus Shinawari formations had already resulted in oil and gas discoveries.

The company stated that this latest discovery is expected to support Pakistan’s energy sector by increasing local hydrocarbon reserves and helping reduce the gap between energy supply and demand.
