Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai announced on Wednesday that the opposition will launch nationwide protests against the government following the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill.

Addressing a joint press conference alongside Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Achakzai said the opposition would “use the power of the people to create obstacles for the government.”

Reacting to the bill’s passage, Barrister Gohar vowed that the PTI would work to restore the powers of the Chief Justice once the party gains representation in Parliament.

Criticising the presidential immunity, he said: “The people will not respect those who misuse their authority.”

Recalling the 26th Amendment, Gohar noted that the PTI had expelled five members who voted in favour of the previous amendment against party policy.

Earlier, the National Assembly passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill with a two-thirds majority, as 234 members voted in favour and four opposed it after a clause-by-clause review.
