Talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan have resumed in Istanbul after a brief pause caused by a firing incident at the border near Spin Boldak. The Pakistani delegation, during the discussions, presented evidence of unprovoked firing from the Afghan side. This evidence has also been shared with Turkish and Qatari mediators involved in facilitating the dialogue.
According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, firing from the Afghan side breached the ceasefire at the Chaman border. Pakistani security forces responded quickly and effectively, which helped control the situation.
Pakistan has firmly rejected Afghanistan’s claims about the incident, maintaining that the firing was initiated by Afghan forces. The Ministry stated that Pakistan’s response was measured and aimed at restoring calm, not escalating tensions.
Despite the incident, the ceasefire agreement between the two countries remains in place. Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to the negotiation process and hopes that Afghanistan will continue to cooperate to maintain peace along the border.
Both delegations are currently in contact with their respective institutions to ensure that talks move forward in a constructive manner.
