The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has announced that all airports in the country will soon become completely cashless. This new move is part of a national plan to promote safe, transparent, and efficient digital payments for travelers and airport staff.
According to officials, passengers will be able to use QR codes for all kinds of transactions, from buying food and coffee to shopping at retail outlets. The PAA is working with the State Bank of Pakistan to make this digital payment system simple and accessible for everyone.
In the first phase, the cashless system will be introduced at major airports in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. Later, it will expand to Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot airports. Eventually, the system will be implemented nationwide to bring all airports up to international standards.
Authorities believe that going cashless will make operations faster, safer, and more transparent. It will help reduce theft risks, minimize errors, and shorten waiting times at counters. The system will also make it easier for airport management to track payments and maintain accurate financial records.
Passengers will enjoy faster, contactless transactions, which are especially useful in maintaining hygiene and safety in busy terminals.
The PAA stated that this project supports the Government of Pakistan’s broader digital transformation vision. All airport vendors, shops, and service providers have been instructed to adopt the new digital payment setup in the coming months.
