Pakistan and China Agree to Fast-Track Work on ML-1 Project
China and Pakistan have agreed to move quickly to implement the ML-1 project in accordance with the leadership consensus.
Zheng Shanjie, Chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, met in person today at the NDRC’s Beijing headquarters.
The minister reflected on the CPEC’s progress and said it has been a fantastic trip since it was first announced ten years ago. He noted that since 2013, the pertinent organizations from the two sides had collaborated and effectively carried out significant energy and physical infrastructure projects, establishing the groundwork for the next stage of CPEC.

China and Pakistan are excellent allies and collaborators, according to the Chairman of the NDRC. Despite the ups and downs of world politics, the two nations have consistently stood together and shown unwavering support to one another.
The two parties decided to expedite the ML-1 project’s implementation in accordance with the leadership consensus and launch it as soon as possible. Zheng promised to share Chinese technology and knowledge to increase Pakistan’s export revenues and hasten the establishment of SEZs in response to the planning minister’s suggestion.
In order to review current cooperation under the CPEC framework and closely collaborate on the next phase, which has a much wider scope and is more focused on industrialization, agriculture, science & technology, and socioeconomic development, both sides decided to hold regular meetings of the Joint Working Groups (JWGs).
