Pakistan and China have launched a new educational and research partnership under the Belt and Road Framework, following major agreements signed between Punjab University and the University of Jinan.
The signing ceremony was held online at the Punjab University Vice-Chancellor’s Office, attended by Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali and Professor Dr Du Qing of the University of Jinan. Chinese industrial partner Zhengsai Group and Pakistan’s Marjan Polymer Industries have also joined the collaboration, which focuses on advancing research in science, engineering, and technology.
As part of the agreement, both universities will begin a faculty and student exchange programme. Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali said the institutions will work together on research related to soil erosion, environmental restoration, water conservation, and advanced material development.
An International Joint Laboratory will also be established to support land and water protection as well as environmental rehabilitation. Dr Ali described the collaboration as a new chapter in Pakistan–China friendship, highlighting its role in promoting sustainable development through joint research and innovation.
