Unprovoked firing by the Afghan Taliban and Fatna ul-Khawarij in the Kurram region triggered a strong and immediate response from the Pakistan Army, security sources confirmed on Tuesday. The latest exchange of fire has heightened tension along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, with military operations continuing in the area.

According to official sources, the Pakistan Army retaliated swiftly after militants opened fire, causing heavy losses to Taliban positions. Several enemy posts were destroyed, and a major fire broke out during the clashes. Security officials confirmed that the Taliban abandoned their positions and fled, leaving behind the bodies of their fighters and damaged equipment.

In one of the key developments, the Pakistan Army successfully destroyed a Taliban tank during the operation. Within an hour, another strategic post, known as Shamshad Post, was also neutralised. Reports indicate that a senior commander of Fatna ul-Khawarij was among those killed in the counter-offensive.

Military sources further stated that ongoing operations are targeting terrorist hideouts and infrastructure that support militant activities along the border. Civilians from both sides have begun relocating to safer areas as cross-border tension continues to rise.

The recent hostilities follow an earlier incident on October 11, when the Afghan Taliban carried out unprovoked firing on the Pakistani border. The Pakistan Army responded firmly, warning of severe consequences for any future aggression.

According to an ISPR statement, credible intelligence and ground assessments suggest that more than 200 Indian-backed Khawarij fighters were killed during the clashes, with many others injured. The military confirmed that several Taliban camps, posts, and command centres were completely destroyed in the operation.

Security forces remain on high alert in the region as Pakistan continues its efforts to eliminate cross-border terrorism and protect its territorial integrity.
