Pakistan started their three-match ODI series against the West Indies with a five-wicket win at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, thanks to fifties from captain Mohammad Rizwan and debutant Hassan Nawaz.
Chasing 281, Pakistan lost Saim Ayub early, but Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam steadied the innings. Babar fell for 47, and Rizwan reached his 16th ODI half-century before being dismissed at 180-5.
Match-winning partnership
Hassan Nawaz (63*) and Hussain Talat (41*) then shared an unbeaten 104-run stand to see Pakistan home in 48.5 overs. Hassan’s fifty came with five fours and three sixes.
West Indies batting
Earlier, Shaheen Afridi struck early before Evin Lewis (60) and Shai Hope (55) led the hosts’ fightback, supported by Roston Chase (53). Gudakesh Motie added a quick 31, taking West Indies to 280 all out in 49 overs. Afridi took 4-51, with Naseem Shah claiming 3-55.
Pakistan now lead the series 1-0, with the second ODI set for Sunday.
