Pakistan has welcomed the New Year with notable relief for consumers as the federal government announced a reduction in fuel prices for the next fortnight, effective from January 1, 2026.

According to the latest notification, the price of High-Speed Diesel has been reduced by Rs8.57 per litre. The new rate now stands at Rs257.08, down from the previous price of Rs265.65. Petrol, officially known as Motor Spirit, has seen a larger cut of Rs 10.28 per litre, bringing its price down from Rs263.45 to Rs 253.17.

The price revision was confirmed by the Ministry of Energy Petroleum Division in a press release issued from Islamabad. Officials stated that the decision was taken after carefully reviewing international oil prices and local economic conditions.

The reduction in fuel prices is expected to provide immediate relief to motorists, transporters, and businesses that rely heavily on fuel. Analysts believe the move could help ease transportation costs and reduce pressure on prices of daily-use goods across the country.

The development comes as a positive start to the year for consumers in Pakistan, with expectations that lower fuel costs may support overall economic stability in the coming weeks.
