Pakistan Imported Mobiles Worth Rs. 8.8 Billion in February
According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan experienced a 36.39% month-on-month decline in mobile phone imports in February 2023, with imports standing at $33.054 million compared to $51.960 million in January 2023.
The imports in February 2023 also decreased by 76.73% compared to $142 million in February 2022. In terms of Pakistani rupees, mobile imports in February 2023 were worth Rs. 8.81 billion, a 27% decline from Rs. 12 billion in January 2023 and a 64% decrease from almost Rs. 25 billion in February of the previous year.
Between July and February of the current fiscal year 2022-23 (FY23), the country imported mobile phones worth $447.855 million, experiencing a negative growth of 68.29% compared to the same period in the previous year. In terms of Pakistani rupees, mobile imports for the same period exceeded Rs. 101 billion.

On a year-on-year basis, mobile phone imports registered a 76.73% negative growth in February 2023, compared to $142.033 million in the same month of the previous year. Overall, telecom imports during July-February FY23 stood at $708.798 million, registering a negative growth of 62.08% compared to $1.869 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Other apparatus imports, on the other hand, stood at $260.944 million in July-February FY23, experiencing a 42.90% negative growth compared to $456.967 million during the same period of the last fiscal year. On a year-on-year basis, other apparatus imports registered $31.687 million in February 2023 and experienced a 57.95% negative growth compared to $75.364 million in February 2022. However, it grew by 20.13% on a month-on-month basis compared to $26.377 million in January 2023.
