Pakistan Joins UN Security Council as Non-Permanent Member

Pakistan Elected to the UN Security Council for 2025-2026

Pakistan has been re-elected to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as a non-permanent member for the 2025–2026 term. Pakistan was well-supported during the election, which was held at the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “We are grateful to all members of the UN General Assembly for their confidence in Pakistan and for electing it as a non-permanent member of the Security Council. We are also grateful to the members of the Asia-Pacific Group for endorsing Pakistan’s candidature for the Council.”

Pakistan is going to retain this position for the eighth time. The country is renowned for its dedication to maintaining and advancing international peace and security, which includes taking part in UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions across the globe.

Pakistan intends to combat terrorism in all of its manifestations, support UN efforts for peacekeeping and peacebuilding, strive toward peacefully resolving ongoing conflicts, and reject the use of force to resolve global disputes during its tenure in office. Pakistan is committed to assisting in resolving both regional and international crises. 

After the UN election Pakistan is keen to cooperate with other members of the Security Council and the international community in order to uphold the UN Charter and promote global peace, prosperity, and respect for human rights.
