Afghanistan defeated Pakistan in one-day cricket for the first time ever in a thrilling World Cup match. With eight wickets and six balls remaining, they completed their most successful chase in this format, chasing down a target of 283.
Ibrahim Zadran led the way with 87 runs, supported by Rahmanullah Gurbaz with 65 and Rahmat Shah’s unbeaten 77. This victory propelled Afghanistan to the sixth position in the tournament standings, while it left the defending champions, England, at the bottom of the table.

With his 74 runs, captain Babar Azam helped Pakistan score a total of 282-7 in Chennai. Noor Ahmad, a 15-year-old spinner from Afghanistan, stood out among bowlers, taking three wickets for 49 runs.
With this remarkable victory, Afghanistan not only beat their previous record of highest successful chase set in 2014 against the United Arab Emirates but also achieved their first victory over Pakistan in ODIs in eight attempts.
