Pakistan’s men’s hockey team has qualified for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 after defeating Japan 4–3 in a thrilling semi-final of the World Cup Qualifiers in Ismailia, Egypt.
Pakistan started the match strongly and took an early 1–0 lead, but Japan quickly responded and went ahead 3–1, putting Pakistan under pressure. However, the Men in Green made an impressive comeback, scoring two goals to level the match at 3–3 before scoring the winning goal late in the game.
With this victory, Pakistan not only reached the final of the qualifying tournament but also secured a place in the 2026 Hockey World Cup, which will be held in Belgium and the Netherlands. This marks Pakistan’s return to the tournament after eight years, as they last qualified in 2018 and missed the most recent edition.
Pakistan’s goals were scored by Imad Muhammad, Abubakar Mahmood, Sufyan Khan, and Afraz. Goalkeeper Ali Raza also played a crucial role by saving a penalty stroke in the final minutes, helping the team maintain their narrow lead.
The exciting comeback win sparked celebrations among fans, and the team, led by coach Roelant Oltmans, will now head into the tournament final with strong momentum.
