Pakistan Railways to Start e-Tracking of Cargo Trains
The Federal Minister for Railways, Azam Khan Swati, announced in Lahore that e-tracking of cargo trains will soon be implemented and a cargo centre will be established in the Kot Lakhpat neighbourhood of Lahore in conjunction with the business sector.

On Friday, the minister met with the president and members of the Lahore Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and informed them that Pakistan Railways (PR) was open to cooperative ventures with private companies.
During the discussion, LCCI President Mian Tariq Misbah expressed optimism that the situation will considerably improve after the ML-1 project was completed.
Misbah advised the minister that both bonded and non-bonded containers were utilised for shipping, but that PR should give precedence to bonded containers and load only bonded containers if there is extra room.

Two or three times every week, cargo trains were available at the Lahore Dry Port, but this service has been halted, generating complications, he claimed.
The members at the conference voiced their concern about the train accidents and suggested that the central traffic management system be enhanced to prevent future mishaps.
