Pakistan’s Global Travel and Tourism Rankings 2024

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has ranked Pakistan 101st out of 119 countries in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) for 2024. Bangladesh is ranked 109th in Southeast Asia, whereas Pakistan is ranked 105th, ahead of Nepal. However, it ranks behind its neighbors, Sri Lanka at 76 and India at 39.

The TTDI is a part of the WEF’s broader initiative to support equitable and sustainable economic growth through partnerships with governments and business leaders. Pakistan is ranked in the Asia-Pacific region, falling into the lower-middle income category.

In contrast, the United Arab Emirates is in first place in the Middle East at rank 18, followed by Saudi Arabia at rank 41, Qatar at rank 53, and Bahrain at rank 81. The United States is at the top of the list worldwide, closely followed by Spain, Japan, and France. Australia, Germany, the UK, China, Italy, and Switzerland round out the top ten. The top 30 nations produced over 75% of the travel and tourism GDP in 2022, and they also accounted for 70% of the GDP increase in the sector between 2020 and 2022. In Africa, the majority of the countries have a low tourism score in the travel list 2024.

Strong transport networks, open travel regulations, business-friendly climates, and a wide range of leisure, cultural, and natural attractions are all advantages of nations that score highly on the TTDI.

The index was developed with assistance from the University of Surrey. It contains important information from the travel industry as well as expert opinions. According to the most recent data, the travel and tourism sector is rebounding nicely from the COVID-19 pandemic-related downturn. In many places, it is performing better than before the epidemic.

Even with the rebound, the business still has to deal with problems, including rising worldwide prices, continuing hostilities, and environmental hazards like wildfires in well-known tourist locations.

The WEF report presents a forward-looking caution about possible disruptions due to economic uncertainties, geopolitical conflicts, and new problems that may develop from artificial intelligence advancements. Even if Pakistan and other nations are doing better, more funding is still needed to expand their travel and tourist industries
