Pakistan Refinery to Undertake USD 1.2 Billion Expansion
Islamabad: According to recent reports, the managing director of Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL), Zahid Mir, claimed that the business will undertake a USD 1.2 billion enhancement and expansion project. This effort will double the company’s installed refining capacity to 200,000 barrels per day in five years.

According to the company’s managing director, the stated project has three objectives: expanding the production capacity of Euro V–compliant diesel and gasoline, increasing the overall installed capacity and decreasing furnace oil output. According to the information provided, the company intends to conduct a FEED (front-end engineering design) study for the expansion project at the cost of USD 50 million. Following the completion of the FEED, the project cost will be established, and then an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract will be awarded.

This program is anticipated to reduce the installed capacity of furnace oil, a product that is no longer in demand among producers, from 30% to 2%. Due to the country’s rising reliance on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquid Natural Gas, it is crucial to note that PRL, one of the nation’s largest refineries, is running at 60% of its installed capacity (LNG).
