Pakistan has finalized its Playing XI for the opening Test match against South Africa, sources confirmed. The team management has opted for a well-balanced squad featuring seven specialist batters, two spinners, and two fast bowlers.
Asif Afridi set for Test debut
Left-arm spinner Asif Afridi is expected to make his Test debut, marking a major milestone in his career. His inclusion highlights the selectors’ trust in his consistent domestic performances and the spin-friendly conditions expected for the series opener.
Key batters retain their spots
Pakistan’s top batting lineup remains intact — Abdullah Shafiq, Imam-ul-Haq, and Shan Masood will anchor the top order, while Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, and Muhammad Rizwan strengthen the middle order.
The management’s decision to stick with its experienced batters reflects an emphasis on stability and depth against South Africa’s formidable bowling attack.
Spin and pace departments
Alongside debutant Asif Afridi, Noman Ali has been named as the second spinner, bringing balance and variation to the spin attack.
In the pace department, Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali will spearhead the bowling lineup. Their blend of pace, swing, and experience is expected to be crucial in dismantling South Africa’s batting order.
All-rounder Salman Ali Agha also makes the final XI, adding versatility with both bat and ball.
