Pakistan on Monday reviewed the supply of perishable food items and fertilizers as the ongoing Middle East conflict raises concerns about disruptions to key shipping routes and energy supplies.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting to assess the domestic availability of perishable foods and review export routes. Officials also discussed exploring alternative sea routes and new markets to ensure that trade continues without delays.
During the meeting, officials stressed the need to improve storage facilities, logistics, and market access so that Pakistan can maintain its export competitiveness despite the changing global situation.
In a separate meeting, Federal Minister for Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a session of the Fertilizer Review Committee to ensure that farmers continue to receive an uninterrupted supply of fertilizers.
The committee reviewed fertilizer pricing, distribution, and coordination between manufacturers and provincial authorities. The discussions focused on preventing hoarding and ensuring that agricultural productivity is not affected.
Authorities said that both global and local markets are being closely monitored to protect Pakistan’s food security during the current regional uncertainties.
