Pakistan Secures Petroleum Supply for Next 30 Days Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Pakistan has secured petroleum supplies through April 25, with refineries operating at strong capacity levels and diversified import strategies helping cushion the country against potential disruptions from rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Officials said fuel inventories remain stable due to improved stock management and timely procurement decisions, which have strengthened supply chains in recent weeks.

A key part of this strategy has been increased imports from Oman. Pakistan received three gasoline cargoes and one diesel shipment in March, with two more gasoline cargoes expected before the end of the month. Pakistan State Oil is also in discussions with Oman Trading International to secure additional shipments as domestic demand continues to rise.

Refinery performance has also improved significantly. Pak-Arab Refinery Company, the country’s largest refinery, is operating at full capacity and currently holds crude stocks sufficient for around two weeks, with incoming shipments expected to extend supply coverage through April 25.

Meanwhile, National Refinery Limited and Pakistan Refinery Limited are operating at approximately 80% capacity, up from earlier levels of 50% to 60%, reflecting improved crude availability.

Officials attributed the stable outlook to proactive contingency planning following the February 28 conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran, which raised concerns about possible disruptions in global oil flows, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.

To reduce risk, Pakistan arranged alternative crude supplies from regional hubs such as Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia. These measures have helped ensure uninterrupted fuel availability, even as some regional markets, including India and Bangladesh, face tighter supply conditions.
