A significant declaration regarding e-passports in the country was made by Mustafa Jamal Qazi, Director-General of Passports Pakistan. Qazi recently stated during his visit to the Karachi Passport Office that issuing e-passports will be required beginning in 2027.
He went on to say that final preparations are being made for all the necessary changes from the current system of machine-readable passports to electronic passports.

In addition, the Director-General declared that a new passport system would be installed within the following six to seven months as part of this transition. Mustafa Jamal Qazi claims that 6.5 million passports have been issued to Pakistani citizens who plan to travel overseas this year.
Furthermore, concerning the purported issuing of thousands of Pakistani passports to Afghan people, the official announced the formation of a high-level task group to look into the situation.
Additionally, he asserted that the government would provide an adequate supply of the lamination paper needed to print new passports, meaning that there would be no more delays in passport issuance.
