Travelers to the United Kingdom, including tourists, can now use a new eVisa system that replaces traditional visa stickers in passports with a digital confirmation sent by email.
Under the updated system, applicants will continue to apply online and visit a visa application centre to provide biometric information. However, once approved, they will receive a digital immigration status record through an online UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account instead of a physical visa sticker.
This change means applicants no longer need to revisit the visa centre to collect their passports after submission. They can keep their passports once their biometric appointment is completed.
The eVisa system offers a more secure way to manage immigration status and reduces the risk of documents being lost or damaged. Visa holders can generate a share code to prove their immigration status at border control or when required by authorities. There are no changes to visa processing times, eligibility requirements, or visa conditions.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said the move is a positive development for Pakistanis traveling to the UK for tourism, family visits, or business. She noted that the share code system makes it easier to confirm visa status while also saving time by eliminating the need to submit passports for stamping.
Applicants have been advised to apply directly through the official government website and avoid using third-party visa agents. Authorities emphasize that gov.uk is the only trusted source for accurate visa information.
