Pakistan’s imports from India have surged once more in spite of the formal trade embargo.
Sources claim that in January 2024, imports from India increased year over year (YoY). India recorded $32.6 million in imports in January 2024 as opposed to $25.4 million in January 2023. This is a rise of more than 28% from the previous year.
It is important to note that in February and May of last year, Pakistan’s imports from India increased dramatically as well.
The appointment of a Trade and Investment Officer (TIO) at Pakistan’s Trade Mission in India has also been put on hold.
Since August 2019, official trade between the two nations has been halted. The suspension followed India’s decision to remove the unique status of occupied Kashmir conferred by Article 370 of its constitution.
