The Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) has said that the transition to 5G technology could play a key role in boosting Pakistan’s IT exports and strengthening the country’s digital economy.
The association noted that the recent 5G spectrum auction conducted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority generated around $507 million and marked an important step toward improving Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
P@SHA also acknowledged the efforts of the government, including the Special Investment Facilitation Council and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, for facilitating a transparent and successful auction process.
According to the association, the introduction of high-capacity 5G networks will provide ultra-low latency and greater bandwidth, enabling Pakistani technology companies to deliver advanced and data-heavy services to international clients more efficiently.
P@SHA Chairman Sajjad Mustafa Syed said 5G will serve as the foundation for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and augmented reality. He added that this could accelerate digital innovation in sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and smart city development.
The association also highlighted that improved connectivity will support the growth of cloud computing and edge computing systems. This could help startups and technology companies expand more quickly, reduce operating costs, and strengthen cybersecurity.
P@SHA said stronger digital infrastructure could help Pakistan maintain double-digit growth in IT exports and position the technology sector as one of the country’s leading export industries in the future.
The association urged the government, regulators, and telecom operators to ensure a fast and industry-friendly rollout of 5G services so the IT sector can fully benefit from next-generation connectivity.
