Saudi Arabia has officially commenced the 2025 Hajj season with strict entry regulations into Makkah to manage the pilgrimage efficiently. Starting April 23, entry into the holy city is restricted to individuals possessing valid documentation, as announced by the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat). This measure is part of the Ministry of Interior’s initiative to ensure order during the peak pilgrimage period.

Pilgrims and residents must now secure official entry permits through the newly introduced Tasreeh Portal, accessible via the Absher and Muqeem platforms. Entry into Makkah will be granted only to those holding a valid work permit for Makkah, a residency permit (Iqama) issued in the city, or an official Hajj permit.

Security checkpoints have been established at all entry points to Makkah, with authorities emphasizing that individuals without the required permits will be denied entry. The Ministry of Interior has warned that attempts to bypass these regulations will not be tolerated.

In addition, the Ministry of Hajj has issued a warning to foreign nationals on Umrah visas, stating that performing Hajj on such visas is prohibited. The ministry has urged these visitors to return home before their visas expire to avoid penalties or deportation.

These new regulations aim to streamline the flow of pilgrims and address logistical challenges associated with one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. The Saudi government is focusing on enhancing compliance with Hajj protocols to prevent administrative issues, such as those recently reported in Pakistan, where approximately 67,000 applicants risk missing Hajj due to official oversights.

Authorities are calling on all pilgrims to comply with the updated entry requirements and secure necessary permissions early to ensure a smooth and organized Hajj experience in 2025.
