Peshawar Zalmi have taken an early step ahead of the Pakistan Super League 2026 by signing Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz before the official PSL 11 player auction.
Zalmi owner Javed Afridi confirmed the signing on social media, welcoming Gurbaz to the franchise and signaling the team’s intent to build its squad well in advance of the next season. The early announcement indicates that Gurbaz has been added through a direct signing rather than the auction process.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is no stranger to the PSL. The attacking top-order batter has previously featured for Islamabad United and Multan Sultans, earning a reputation for explosive starts and fearless batting in the powerplay. His ability to score quickly at the top of the order gives Peshawar Zalmi a strong option in matches where early momentum is crucial.
Gurbaz is also part of Afghanistan’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which begins on February 7, highlighting his continued importance in international T20 cricket.
The signing has sparked mixed reactions among Zalmi supporters due to ongoing tensions surrounding Afghanistan-Pakistan cricket relations. With reports of some Afghan players, including Rashid Khan, considering skipping the PSL, Gurbaz’s inclusion has become a topic of debate among fans.
Meanwhile, activity around PSL 11 has intensified across franchises. Lahore Qalandars have signed Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, Karachi Kings have added Moeen Ali, and Islamabad United have secured New Zealand batter Devon Conway. The most talked-about move so far has come from Sialkot Stallionz, who completed a high-profile signing of Australia’s Steve Smith, adding further excitement ahead of the PSL 2026 season.
