Next week, petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices in Pakistan are hoped to drop due to falling international oil prices. The federal government will likely lower the fuel price by Rs. 5-6 per liter starting September 1, 2024.

This expected fuel price drop reaches as international oil prices for petrol, HSD, and natural oil have decreased recently, with current rates at $88, $80.4, and $79 per barrel, respectively. The Pakistani rupee has remained stable at 278 against the US dollar during this period.
Additionally, the import compensation on petrol has decreased by about 50 cents per barrel, bringing it to $8.50, while the premium on HSD remains constant at $5 per barrel.
Given these factors, petrol prices are expected to fall to Rs. 254-255 per liter, and HSD prices are projected to decrease to Rs. 260-261 per liter.
In the last fortnight, the government had already reduced petrol prices by Rs. 8.47 per liter, bringing them to Rs. 260.96, and diesel prices were cut by Rs. 6.7 per liter to Rs. 266.07.
