Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday congratulated the Pakistan cricket team for winning the ODI series against Sri Lanka, praising the players and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their strong performance. In a message shared on X, the prime minister said the national team had delivered an impressive display of unity and skill. He also thanked the Sri Lankan team and management, noting that their participation once again highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries.
Pakistan sealed the series after a convincing eight-wicket win in the second ODI at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Babar Azam played a match-winning knock, ending his two-year wait for an ODI century with an unbeaten 102 off 119 balls. His controlled innings, which included eight fours, helped Pakistan successfully chase down Sri Lanka’s target of 289 with ease.
Mohammad Rizwan supported him with an unbeaten 51, and the pair added a solid 112-run partnership to finish the match with 10 balls remaining. Earlier, Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub gave Pakistan a fast start by putting up 77 runs in the first 10 overs.
Sri Lanka had posted 288 for 8 after choosing to bat first. Janith Liyanage scored 50, while Saddera Samarawickrama added 42 during a steady fifth-wicket stand. But Pakistan’s bowlers struck at key moments, with Abrar Ahmed and Haris Rauf breaking through the middle order. Dushmantha Chameera was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, taking 2 for 58.
With this win, Pakistan wrapped up the ODI series, giving fans a strong start to the cricket season.
