PM Sharif, the Sri Lankan president, pledged stronger bilateral cooperation at the UNGA

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, reaffirming the friendly relations and goodwill that Pakistan and Sri Lanka have enjoyed for decades.

The discussion between the two leaders focused on expanding cooperation in different areas, including trade, education, defense, and culture. Both leaders agreed that regular high-level exchanges are important for strengthening ties and deepening mutual understanding.

A key part of the talks highlighted people-to-people connections. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in sports, especially cricket, which holds a special place in both countries. They also expressed satisfaction over the current state of bilateral relations and promised to strengthen cultural and educational linkages in the future.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Dissanayake also shared views on important regional and global developments. The prime minister thanked Sri Lanka for its cooperation with Pakistan at international forums and assured that Islamabad will continue supporting Colombo in areas of common interest.

This meeting once again reflected the close partnership between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and their joint commitment to working together for regional peace, development, and prosperity.
