Pakistan commemorates military success in Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos with national celebrations

Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reiterated that enduring peace in South Asia is impossible without a resolution to the Kashmir dispute. Speaking at a Youm-e-Tashakur (Thanksgiving Day) ceremony in Islamabad, he emphasized dialogue and peaceful cooperation with regional neighbors over continued conflict.

“We’ve fought three wars without achieving anything,” the Prime Minister said, urging regional powers to engage as peaceful partners to address longstanding issues.

The event, marking the successful completion of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, began with Quranic recitation, a flypast, and patriotic songs. It was attended by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, service chiefs, cabinet members, foreign diplomats, and other dignitaries. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif served as the chief guest.

“Pakistan Gave a Strong Response”

Recalling the operation, Prime Minister Sharif paid tribute to the sacrifices of civilians and soldiers during Indian aggression. “We shot down five of their aircraft — no, actually six, as confirmed by the Air Chief,” he said. “We also downed Rafale jets and drones, yet the enemy continued issuing threats.”

He revealed that on the night of May 9, Army Chief Gen Asim Munir informed him of Indian missile attacks targeting Pakistani airports. “He requested permission to strike back with a blow they’d never forget,” the Prime Minister said, adding that Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes targeted locations including Pathankot and Udhampur.

Following the counteroffensive, India reportedly offered a ceasefire. “General Asim Munir called again to say the enemy was now seeking peace. I told him to accept it,” Sharif said.

National Support and International Acknowledgment

Declaring May 10 as a historic day of gratitude, the Prime Minister thanked the nation for standing by the armed forces. “We showed the world we’re ready to defend our homeland,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to friendly countries and extended special thanks to former U.S. President Donald Trump, acknowledging his efforts toward promoting peace in Asia.

Across Pakistan, the day was marked with special prayers and a 31-gun salute in Islamabad, and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. In Karachi, a commemorative ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, where Corps Commander Lt Gen Awais Dastagir laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha.
