Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a new rule that requires all federal government officers in grade 17 and above to have a medical check-up every year, according to official sources.

This rule means that these medical check-ups will be important when deciding if officers can keep their jobs, get training, be nominated for new roles, or get promoted. The goal is to find any health problems early and make sure officers are fit for bigger responsibilities and special training.

After the Prime Minister gave approval, the Establishment Division told all federal ministries, departments, and provincial governments to start following this rule right away.

The medical check-ups must be done by approved doctors at government teaching hospitals or main district hospitals, using a special form.

Officers must submit their medical reports to their ministry or department by March 31 every year. A certificate confirming the check-up will also be sent to the Establishment Division. Each officer’s medical records will be kept separately in a file called the “medical roll.”

If an officer is found to have health problems, a medical board will review their case. Then, a special committee from the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) will make the final decision and report it to the Prime Minister.
