Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday underscored that education is a cornerstone of nation-building, stressing its central role in shaping Pakistan’s future.
He made the remarks while chairing a key meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Danish University in Islamabad. Welcoming the chairman and board members, the prime minister extended his best wishes and said their efforts would be instrumental in spreading knowledge and promoting academic excellence.
Addressing the meeting, PM Shehbaz directed that Danish University should place strong emphasis on technology, modern disciplines, and high-quality research. He instructed officials to formulate a comprehensive strategy for hiring top-tier faculty and stressed that only reputable and experienced contractors should be pre-qualified for the university’s construction.
The prime minister also issued clear directives on student admissions, emphasizing that talented and deserving students from Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir must be given special opportunities. He further ordered the launch of an awareness campaign about the Danish University in government schools across the country.
During the briefing, participants were informed that a Project Management Unit for a Danish University has already been set up and that the university’s charter has been approved by the Ministry of Law and Justice. The charter will now be forwarded to the cabinet and parliament for final approval.
Officials also shared that a nationwide outreach programme is being initiated for the Danish University, with the establishment of Centers of Excellence aligned with modern academic and industry requirements in the initial phase. Pre-admission training camps will be organised for deserving students from across Pakistan, while renowned international education experts have been approached to help shape the university’s academic vision.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, members of the Danish University Board of Trustees, and senior government officials.
