Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday that agriculture is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and stressed the need to adopt modern farming practices.
He was speaking at a ceremony where 300 more students were sent to China for agricultural training, bringing the total number to 1,000. The prime minister said students were selected on merit from all provinces, with Balochistan’s quota increased by 10 percent to ensure equal opportunities. He also promised the province a bigger share in future laptop distribution programs.
Shehbaz highlighted the importance of learning from China’s experience, especially in livestock and modern technology, to make Pakistan self-sufficient and reduce reliance on foreign loans. He said the country had fallen behind others and could only progress by promoting merit and investing in youth.
The Chinese ambassador praised Shehbaz’s leadership and said Pakistan’s economy was showing signs of stability with stronger reserves. He assured that China would continue to support Pakistan’s development and also presented a cheque for flood relief aid to the prime minister.
