PM says solar energy policy will stay the same, announces electricity bill discount

Islamabad, March 24, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has firmly assured that no changes have been made to Pakistan’s current solarization policy, putting public concerns to rest. Chairing a high-level review meeting on the Power Division, the premier emphasized the need for transparency and data-driven communication to dispel any misconceptions surrounding the country’s renewable energy strategy.

The prime minister directed concerned departments to present accurate statistics and factual data to clarify any doubts among the public, underlining his commitment to a sustainable and cost-effective energy future for Pakistan.

Relief Package for Electricity Tariffs Underway

In a significant development, PM Shehbaz announced that a new relief package aimed at reducing electricity tariffs is currently in the works. He expressed confidence that ongoing reforms in the power sector would soon translate into lower electricity costs for households and businesses across the nation.

Fast-Tracking Privatization of Power Companies

Addressing long-standing structural inefficiencies, the prime minister instructed authorities to expedite the privatization of both power generation and distribution companies. He urged immediate action on pending legal and procedural matters to ensure timely implementation of privatization plans.

Strengthening Energy Coordination Across Divisions

The prime minister also emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among key ministries, including the Power Division, Water Resources Division, and Petroleum Division. This integrated approach is aimed at building a robust and unified national energy strategy.

High-Level Participation in the Power Review Meeting

The review meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Power Sardar Owais Ahmed Leghari, Advisor Dr. Tauqir Shah, and other senior government officials. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Advisor Muhammad Ali participated via video link, contributing insights on economic and regulatory aspects.
