The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has persuaded President Asif Ali Zardari to help reduce political tensions between the ruling party and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). According to reports on Thursday, both parties have agreed to stop issuing public statements against each other.
A high-level PML-N delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, reached Nawabshah from Islamabad on a special flight. Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi also traveled separately from Lahore to join the discussions.
President Zardari welcomed the leaders at Zardari House, where they held a detailed meeting. The talks covered national security, the overall political situation, and regional as well as global developments.
During the meeting, Ishaq Dar briefed the President about the recent session of the United Nations General Assembly and shared details of meetings with international leaders. Sources said that Dar and Sadiq also conveyed a special message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to President Zardari.
Both sides agreed that to maintain political stability, leaders from PML-N and PPP would refrain from making negative remarks against each other in public. The meeting ended on a cordial note, and the delegation departed after successful talks.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also met separately with the President. His role was highlighted as important in bridging the gap between the two major political parties and reducing tensions.
