Islamabad – Political tensions between Pakistan and India are once again on the rise following the Pahalgam incident, where 26 civilians were killed. In response, all major Pakistani political parties, with the exception of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have pledged full support to the armed forces and vowed a strong response if India attempts any misadventure.

During an in-camera briefing held on Sunday, civil and military leaders apprised political representatives of the current regional situation and Pakistan’s readiness to counter any threats. The briefing was led by Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. Key members of political parties including the PPP, PML-N, MQM-P, and others participated in the session, while PTI was notably absent.

Sources reveal that the session included a comprehensive update on the preparedness of the armed forces and detailed India’s alleged planning and execution of a false flag operation in Pahalgam. It was also discussed how India is aiming to divert attention from its activities in Kashmir and efforts to redirect Indus River water. Participants were shown video evidence linking Indian elements to acts of terrorism in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif highlighted that the briefing aimed to gather unified feedback from political leaders in light of escalating hostilities with India. The briefing emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace while maintaining readiness to thwart any aggression.

Senator Muhammad Abdul Qadir stated that India’s objectives behind the alleged false flag operation were to increase pressure in Indian-held Kashmir, push for control over water resources, and mislead international opinion by implicating Pakistan. He also mentioned that the operation appeared to involve cooperation with elements from the Afghan Taliban to further destabilize the region.

With tensions intensifying since the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, which India quickly blamed on Pakistan, Islamabad has categorically denied involvement and demanded an independent investigation. Pakistan maintains that the incident was a staged operation intended to serve Indian political and strategic interests.

As both nuclear-armed neighbors navigate through a fragile phase, Pakistan’s political and military leadership have reiterated their unified stance to defend national sovereignty and expose what they term Indian state-sponsored terrorism.
