Popular Hunza Hotel Shut Down After Foreign Vlogger Highlights Lake Pollution

After a foreign vlogger shared a viral video of a well-known hotel in Hunza’s Gojal neighborhood dumping sewage straight into the clean waters of Attabad Lake, officials closed the establishment and fined it Rs. 1.5 million.

The hotel had committed a major violation of environmental standards, according to Khadim Hussain, director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who verified the action.

“A No Objection Certificate (NOC) with explicit environmental protection provisions was granted to the hotel. The establishment has been immediately sealed and a fine of Rs. 1.5 million has been imposed for violating these conditions,” he said.

After the video went viral on social media, the incident caused a great deal of public concern and prompted calls for immediate action from municipal and environmental authorities.

The provincial administration had promptly taken notice of the occurrence and instructed the Hunza district administration to carry out a comprehensive investigation, a spokesman for the government of Gilgit-Baltistan, Faizullah Firaq, informed the media.

“A crucial prerequisite for the granting of licenses pertaining to tourism is environmental sustainability. We are currently examining the precise conditions that the hotel might have violated,” he continued.

In order to protect the biological integrity of Hunza, a place renowned worldwide for its natural beauty and tourism appeal, public circles and environmental activists have called for exemplary punishment against such offenders.
