The Muttahida Nanbai Association in Lahore has announced a Rs5 price increase for naan and khameeri roti, raising the cost from Rs25 to Rs30. The increase comes as the price of fine flour sacks has jumped from Rs4,500 to Rs5,000, according to the association’s president.
While plain roti remains unaffected and will continue to be sold at the government-approved rate of Rs14, the bakery association stated that if their demands are met, they are willing to revert naan and khameeri roti back to Rs25.
The Punjab government clarified that it has no role in the recent rise in fine flour prices. The move by the association highlights cost pressures on small businesses amid rising input prices.
