Prison Management Information System Set to Launch Soon
Karachi: The Sindh government announced in July the start of the ‘Jail Management Information System’ and the construction of a ‘high-security prison’ in Thatta.

At a meeting on jail reforms conducted at the Sindh Secretariat under the joint presidency of Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah and Federal Ombudsman Syed Tahir Shahbaz, the decisions were made.
Farhat Imtiaz Janwari, the chief secretary’s spokeswoman, stated that the meeting was briefed on provincial jail changes.
Mumtaz Shah stated that the Prison Management Information System (PMIS) would be implemented in July in 23 prisons. “The system will improve prison department surveillance and administration,” he continued.
The meeting was also informed that all new convicts were coronavirus-tested.

During the current fiscal year, Rs1 billion has been allocated for the restoration and maintenance of existing prisons, as reported by the IG prisons at the meeting.
Federal Ombudsman Syed Tahir Shahbaz applauded the prison improvements, stating that the Sindh government had done a “wonderful job,” and that he would include these revisions in his report to the Supreme Court.
