The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially approved the use of the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz) for Wi-Fi 7, marking a major step in bringing next-generation wireless technology to the country.
Wi-Fi 7 is set to deliver the fastest internet speeds ever available in Pakistan. The technology promises exceptional performance for high-resolution video streaming, 8K content, virtual and augmented reality (AR/VR), gaming, and industrial automation. PTA stated that Wi-Fi 7 will also reduce broadband costs, ease congestion on existing bands, and improve overall network reliability. This means households, businesses, educational institutions, hospitals, and even smart city projects will benefit from faster and more stable connectivity.
With this move, Pakistan joins the ranks of early adopters of Wi-Fi 7 in the Asia-Pacific region. According to experts, the upgrade will provide ultra-high speeds, minimal latency, and reliable performance, making it a key enabler for future applications. The approval follows Pakistan’s earlier adoption of Wi-Fi 6E, showing steady progress in upgrading its digital infrastructure.
This development also complements the government’s broader digital goals. Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja recently announced that Pakistan will roll out 5G services in seven major cities within the coming months. She highlighted that stronger internet infrastructure will play a vital role in economic growth, technology adoption, and Pakistan’s digital transformation.
The minister also linked these advancements to the Pakistan-Saudi IT agreement, which is expected to further boost connectivity and digital growth. She added that with inflation falling and macroeconomic stability improving, Pakistan is ready to move forward with confidence in its technology sector.
The approval of Wi-Fi 7 positions Pakistan as a forward-looking country in adopting modern internet technologies, strengthening its role in the region’s digital landscape.
