PTA Clarifies Reports on Alleged Massive Reduction in Mobile Phone Taxes

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has rejected a notification circulating on social media that claims a reduction in mobile phone taxes, calling it false, misleading, and without any official basis.

In an official clarification, the PTA said it has not issued any notification, directive, or instruction regarding a cut in mobile phone taxes or any change in the rules governing mobile phone imports. The authority stressed that the viral document being shared online did not originate from the PTA and appears to be intended to mislead consumers and mobile phone importers.

According to the regulator, no instructions have been given to importers or the general public about mobile taxation, and reports suggesting relief in mobile phone taxes are completely fake. The PTA urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified information and advised them to rely only on the authority’s official website and verified social media channels for accurate updates.

Editor’s note: The PTA’s clarification addresses viral social media claims about mobile phone tax reductions. However, exclusive reports first published by ProPakistani regarding the reduction in customs valuation for imports of four mobile phone brands are factually correct and have been officially notified by the relevant authorities.
