According to PTA, VPNs can be whitelisted through an automated process accessible on the PTA and Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) websites. This system is designed to safeguard IT services and online businesses in the country, allowing legitimate users to operate without interruption.
This clarification follows comments from PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Rahman, who informed the Senate Standing Committee on IT & Telecom that the PTA has begun whitelisting VPNs to prevent unauthorized services. Rahman also noted that while a nationwide block on VPNs is possible, it could negatively impact businesses.
