The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing, has intensified its crackdown on illegal SIM issuance, conducting two successful operations in Quetta and Gujrat. These raids are part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen digital security and prevent the misuse of telecom services across the country.

In Quetta, a major operation took place at a telecom franchise located in the Engineering Building on Zarghoon Road. The FIA, along with PTA officials, apprehended the franchise owner, Mr. Usman Ahmed. Authorities seized biometric verification system (BVS) devices, desktop computers, and a significant number of SIM cards that were allegedly intended for illegal distribution.

Simultaneously, another raid was conducted in Gujrat by PTA’s Zonal Office Lahore and the FIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centre (CCRC) Gujranwala. This operation was initiated following a complaint filed by a Karachi resident. The targeted franchise, situated on Bhimber Road, was found to be involved in the illegal issuance of 433 SIM cards registered against Sindh-based CNICs. Alarmingly, 57 of these were activated using a single BVS device. The franchise owner was arrested on-site, and investigations are currently underway to determine the full extent of the operation.

The PTA has reiterated its dedication to combating illegal telecom practices and ensuring that digital services are used responsibly and lawfully. Through coordinated actions with law enforcement, the Authority continues to take firm steps to protect consumers and uphold the integrity of Pakistan’s telecommunications infrastructure.
