PTA Presents Automated System to Block Lost, Snatched Phones
An automated system is being launched, according to the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), to ban “lost, stolen, and seized cell phones.”

Users can request to have the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of their cell phones disabled via the Lost & Stolen Device System (LSDS) within 24 hours of the complaint being filed, “following requisite verification,” according to the PTA.
To prevent “possible abuse” of mobile phones, the PTA advised on Twitter that requests to restrict IMEIs be submitted. “The plaintiff will receive a complaint reference number upon the registration of a blocking request,” it continued.

Moreover, the same procedure must be followed if the phone is retrieved. “Mention their complaint reference number, as well as other necessary facts that were given to them earlier for blocking of cell phone,” the consumers should state.
“The user will receive an SMS on the registered number once the cell phone is unblocked,” it stated.
