The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially refuted claims regarding the shutdown or blocking of YouTube and other social media platforms across the country. In a statement released on Friday, the authority confirmed that no such directives have been issued and dismissed circulating reports as misleading.
The clarification came after an outdated press release from September 2012 resurfaced online, causing confusion among users and prompting concerns over potential restrictions. The original 2012 directive was in compliance with a Supreme Court order and is not relevant to the current situation.

PTA emphasized that the circulating content is both outdated and irrelevant, reaffirming that platforms like YouTube remain fully accessible in Pakistan. The authority urged the public to stay informed through official PTA channels and verified social media accounts for accurate and timely updates.
This reassurance is expected to calm growing public concern amid increasing reliance on digital platforms for news, entertainment, and communication in Pakistan.
