Social media activist Khaula Chaudhry of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was placed under judicial remand after appearing before a local court in connection with an anti-state tweet.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) brought Khaula Chaudhry before Duty Judge Abdul Sattar in Rawalpindi, according to court documents. The court rejected the investigation officer’s request for a five-day physical remand.
Zeeshan, the assistant director of the FIA, stood in court and presented the agency’s custody request. Following a review of the case, the duty judge denied the FIA’s request and mandated that the accused be placed under judicial remand.
A tweet purportedly disparaging of state institutions led to the detention of PTI social media activist Khaula Chaudhry.
