Punjab has taken a significant step toward modernising its public education system by introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a new subject in government schools across the province.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the launch on her official X account, stating that AI education is being rolled out in all public schools starting today. She said the initiative aims to ensure that every student, without discrimination, gains access to modern digital and analytical skills needed to compete in today’s rapidly evolving world.
According to the chief minister, the programme includes the deployment of an AI teacher in every government school. As part of the rollout, 1,000 teachers have already been trained as AI Master Trainers to support implementation at the grassroots level. The full AI curriculum is expected to be integrated into the education system within the next 60 days.
Maryam Nawaz described the move as a “historic digital leap” for Punjab, adding that the province is taking the lead in preparing its students for future challenges and opportunities in technology-driven fields.
The initiative reflects the provincial government’s broader focus on digital transformation and skills-based education, aimed at equipping students with knowledge relevant to emerging technologies and the modern job market.
